Description
Announcing the latest release of Wings of the Black Cross series. Number Sixteen is once again authored by Mark Proulx and is illustrated with color profiles by James Bentley. Available Dec. 10, 2024.
From the outset, the primary focus of this series continues to be the study of the fighter aircraft of the Jagdwaffe. These aircraft, flown by accomplished fighter pilots, saw broad operational service on all fronts.
It is important to note that the Luftwaffe also operated many other aircraft types during the Second World War. Consequently, transports, bombers and dive bombers are also examined. Photo coverage is included for:
- Hs 123
- Bf 109
- Bf 110
- Fw 190
- Ju 87
- Me 262
- He 177
- A few other assorted aircraft types
The book consists of 64 photos in B&W, each from the original period images. Selected aircraft of interest are then examined in further detail using 8 full color profiles by James Bentley. The book spans 36 pages and it is printed on thick, high-quality glossy paper. Most of the photos are selected from the author’s extensive private collection, amassed through years of collecting. Captions accompany each photo providing a brief analysis. This involves potential color and markings information along with interesting historical details worthy of further discussion. Wherever possible, unpublished photos are used, and most are seen here in print for the first time. A few select contributors have also graciously supplied photos from their private collections.
Additional installments for this series are planned for future releases. In addition, look to future releases of the new companion series, Wings of the Allies.
