Some 55 years after the Battle, Chief Joseph White Bull of the Miniconjou subband of the Teton Sioux drew and annotated a pictrographic of his personal exploits in which he claimed to have killed General Custer. In addition to three views of his hand-to-hand combat with Custer, White Bull depicted hunts, horse-stealing expeditions, intertribal battle and other tribal activities in which he took part in as a youth. This narrative also includes a written winter count, or traditional calendrical history of the Teton Sioux covering some 100 years.
