G-1 U.S. Navy leather flight jacket – WW II original
Manufacturer is Irving Foster Sportswear Company. Contract number for this specific jacket is DSA-1-435-0-62. Has a characteristic mouton fur collar.
Patches on Jacket:
USS Hancock (CV-19) on the left breast. This large shield-shaped patch commemorates the USS Hancock, an Essex-class aircraft carrier.
Cloth aviator wings on the right breast above the pocket represent U.S. Navy flight crew insignia.
Unit patch on the right shoulder is an 8th Air Force patch (!)
Sewn onto the lower sleeve cuff is the specialist patch worn by enlisted personnel, in this case an Armament Specialist who was responsible for handling bombs, ammunition and defensive machine guns.
Overall the jacket is in good condition with exception of a torn knited sleeve cuff which could be repaired. Some small stitches loosened and zipper is rough.
