Candle Snuffer – Antique
A vintage candle snuffer is sometimes historically called a douter.
- It features a small metal cone or bell attached to a long metal rod with a turned wooden handle.
- Used to safely extinguish a burning candle. Placing the metal cup over the flame cuts off the oxygen supply, suffocating the fire instantly.
- Using a snuffer prevents hot melted wax from blowing onto nearby surfaces. It also minimizes the strong smoke and unpleasant odors produced by a smoldering wick.
