Pair of Original 1860s boots~ One Confederate boot and one Union boot

Very rare combination of a Confederate and a Union Civil war boot, making a striking pair! This pair came from a Mississippi Confederate veteran’s family. One boot is a typically Confederate, crudely made heavy duty boot of light brown leather, 17 ½” tall at the front peak that has an added scallop trim design. Heel is typical Civil war flat heel, edged with metal reinforcing edging. Heavily stitched, reinforced sole with square toes.. Confederate boots are extremely rare and this one is in excellent condition for that period boot. Along with this Confederate boot was found a Federal-made Civil war era boot with square toe, reinforced sole, 16” tall with one piece front last, and small 1” Cuban type heel. Boot also has a slightly raised wine colored leather inset along the top as well as wine colored lining inside. The story is that this Confederate soldier, hurting for footwear as they always were, had worn this mismatched combination of boots during the last days of the Confederacy and was found in his personal effects in the 1970s. This pair has been in the Crandall collection ever since that finding. Size; medium.
