Early southwestern fur trade was dominated by independent Mexican, Fench and American trappers and traders. In 1821, the village of Taos boomed as a major fur center in the far west. Here a mountain man dressed typically southwestern, with a sprinkling of Plains Indian beadwork, rides to that northern New Mexican town. Lashed atop his pack saddle is a stretched beaver plew, under the buffalo robe are his trade furs, the reason for his journey ON TO TAOS. 560 signed and numbered prints, 16” X 24” image with borders printed on heavy archival paper stock.
