Description

Lightning Strikes Twice, F-4 Phantom and MiG 17 – Artist’s Proof

The AP denotes Artist’s Proof, from the private collection of the artist. These are the first 50 – 100 prints off the press once the artist has approved the color. As a result, these are highly collectible editions and cost a bit more than the limited edition signed and numbered editions

19.5 X 28″ image with borders, 950 prints with 50 Artist’s Proofs.

Each print co-autographed by LCDR Ron “Mugs” McKeown and LT Jack Ensche of VF-161 off the USS Midway. This scene is a close encounter between the Phantom and one of the MiG 17’s downed that day. Here, as the Phantom brakes, the MiG overshoots, making his fatal mistake. McKeown and Ensch downed 2 MiG 17s only minutes apart.

Then Capt. Ron McKeown and R.I.O. Capt. Jack Ensch were flying the McDonnell Douglas F-4B Phantom II, Bu No. 153020 Aircraft No. NF-100 on the day when the pair scored a double victory, downing two MiG 17s on 23 May 1972. Weapons that day consisted of four sidewinders and sparrows plus a center-line tank. Unfortunately this beautiful aircraft was lost the day Jack Ensch and his new pilot Mike Doyle were shot down. Ron McKeown had retired in early August 1972. Jack Ensch spent 8 months as a P.O. W. and was wth the last group to be released from the Hanoi Hilton.
