EagleCals™ #1, #2, #3, are each based on original photos published in the book GREEN HEARTS, First in Combat with the Dora 9 by Axel Urbanke. For color reference consult profiles and more detailed descriptions published in this book. Some color information was taken from pilot's diaries and interviews plus actual crash site excavated parts.

The book can be ordered from your local hobby shop, book dealer or from the publisher Eagle Editions Ltd. Each sheet features four aircraft, printed for Eagle Editions Ltd. by MicroScale Decals.

Pilot: Robert Weiss Stab III. JG 54 June 1944 Villacoublay France

This is the machine of noted Knight's Cross holder Hptm. Robert "Bazi" Weiss, Gruppenkommandeur (II. Gruppe). The small "Black 10" is noteworthy.

"Brown 31" Fw 190 D-9 W. Nr. unknown
Pilot Uffz. Walter Stumpf 7/JG 26 (II. Gruppe) date and area unknown.

Typical overpainting late war JG 26 to "Green Up" to blend with forest colors to hide from Allied Fighter/Bombers.

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
"Black 8" Fw 190 D-9 W.Nr. 21102
Pilot: OFw. Werner Zech 14JJG 26 (IV. Gruppe) Date: unknown Ellinghausen, Germany
Shot down by P-51 (503rd FS) near Ellinghausen, 5 km west of Twistringen, 100% damages Aircraft excavated 1996/1997.
Unusual paint scheme well documented by excavation when large fragments with original color intact were found.

 

 

 

"Black 1" Fw 190 D-9 W. No 210003 Pilot: Oblt. Hans Dortenmann 14./JG 26 (IV. Gruppe) March 1945 Varrelbusch, Germany
This was the third D-9 delivered. Originally tested and adjusted at Rechlin then issued to Dortenmann. Machine survived war. Dortenmann sadly blew up his trusty crate at war's end.
